As a pastor who has spent more than 20 years dealing with victims of sexual abuse, I am disgusted with the insensitive and immoral responses of Robbie Sleight and Glen Briscoe in Wednesday's edition of the Opinions Page.

It is insensitive, to say the least, to waste reams of tissues weeping over the loss of face for a rapist of Boy Scouts. I don't know about you, but I could care less about Brad Stowell's life after "serving" 150 days in jail for something the Old Testament gave the death penalty for in the old days. What about the victims? Do you care about them? If you do, you did a fine job of masking your concern.

It is immoral to state that the paper's reporting of these vicious attacks is anything but what it is -- news that can change the lives of the people in this town. Why is that important? Oh, I don't know -- maybe because we have spent years protecting pedophiles in the name of "loving the LDS church" or any other religious or secular institution. To accuse the reporters of being anti-anything except anti-baby rapers is ludicrous. That's like saying the folks who called Hitler a mass murderer were anti-German.

Let's tell it like it is: Catholics who rape babies are scum. Latter-day Saints who rape babies are scum. Baptists who -- get my drift here? If you are a Catholic or a Latter-day Saint or a Baptist or whatever who supports the kid glove approach to such individuals -- as far as I am concerned, you are just as guilty as the person who hurt these innocent children.

As for saying that Stowell is a "changed man" and that we should leave him alone, let Sleight listen to the sobbing victims of these sexual rampages. Before you elevate this monster to sainthood, deal with the damage these people leave behind. Then maybe you might feel less sorry for the predator and sorrier for the sheep he savaged.

Put this monster in jail for good before he rapes another child.
